Lava is a fluid block that can only be placed by the player when using a Bucket. It emits light and sets surrounding blocks on fire. On newly generated maps, lava is a common sight underground and in lava lakes that occasionally generate on the surface. It is most abundantly found in lava oceans in the Nether.
Lava can be pumped through BuildCraft Pipes and stored in all kinds of tanks (portable, BuildCraft) and it can be stored in Pipettes.
Lava is necessary for Forestry's Biogas Engines to run. When using certain fuels, a constant supply of it is required. Other fuels only require lava to start up the engine.
Lava can be used to create energy. One bucket of lava can be used to produce 5,000 EU at 10 EU/t in a Generator, 20,000 EU at 20 EU/t in a Geothermal Generator and 30,000 EU at 24 EU/t in a Thermal Generator. It can also be used to power certain engines. It can produce 1 MJ/t for 20,000 ticks in a Stirling Engine or in a Combustion Engine. In a Magmatic Engine, it will generate 4 MJ/t for 4,500 ticks. In a Solid Fueled Firebox, one lava bucket will generate 1k heat. In a Lava Generator, it will generate 40,000 RF per buckets at a rate of 40 RF/t. Similar yet more expensive, the Magmatic Dynamo will generate 80,000 RF per buckets at a rate of 80 RF/t for the same amount of liquid.
Lava can be used to make Cobblestone, Stone and Obsidian in an Igneous Extruder. It can be made in either a Magma Crucible, Lava Fabricator or Lava Factory.
With Sky Resources 2, 1000mB of Lava can be made by melting a Blaze Powder Block with a torch or Heat Providers or with a Crucible.
