The Induction Smelter is a block added by the Thermal Expansion mod. A machine that uses a catalyst to enhance the smelting process. In addition to Ingots, it has the potential of producing Rich Slag, itself used as a catalyst; bonus ingots and Slag that can be processed into Rockwool. The machine has two inputs, one for the catalyst and one for the resource to be processed. The Induction Smelter can be crafted in 4 tiers, Basic, Hardened, Reinforced and Resonant. The Induction Smelter (Basic) has an internal buffer of 48,000 Redstone Flux increasing with each tier.

The induction smelter can be used to double your ingot output by first pulverising (in a SAG or crusher) the ingot or ore then placing it in the Induction Smelter. You can also input the ore directly without pulverising. Place the ore/pulverised ingot into the far left blue slot of the smelter and sand into the right to process. Additionally, a variety of recipes are available and can be viewed by clicking the large progress indicator arrow between the blue and red slots.

Steel production
Input iron ingots into the left slot and pulverised coal into the right to produce steel. This is a faster method that using the crude blast furnace and takes up less space in your base. The coal to iron requirement is roughly 1 iron to 4 coal.

Catalyst[edit]

The Induction Smelter is particularly recommended for the following Ores, listed by catalyst used:

Sand[edit]

Sand as a catalyst [2] produces 2 Metal Ingots from an Ore and 2 Ores from a Nether Ore, it also produces Rich Slag from most of these ores at a 10% ratio:

Rich Slag[edit]

Produces 3 Metal Ingots from an Ore and 3 Ore from a Nether Ore. Also produces Slag as secondary output at a 75% or 100% ratio. Ore recommended:

  1. Nether Diamond Ore Nether Diamond Ore
  2. Nether Redstone Ore Nether Redstone Ore
  3. Gold Ore Gold Ore

Cinnabar[edit]

This catalyst has the ability to produce a secondary Ingot at a 100% ratio. It also produces 3 Metal Ingots from an Ore and 3 Ore from a Nether Ore.

Quantities of this catalyst are limited so it is recommended to focus its use to producing hard to find materials such as:

Ore Product Qty Bonus Product Ratio
Ardite Ore Ardite Ore Ardite Ingot Ardite Ingot 3 Gold Ingot Gold Ingot 100%
Draconium Ore Draconium Ore Draconium Ingot Draconium Ingot 3 Draconium Ingot Draconium Ingot 100%
Ferrous Ore Ferrous Ore Ferrous Ingot Ferrous Ingot 3 Shiny Ingot Shiny Ingot 100%
Shiny Ore Shiny Ore Shiny Ingot Shiny Ingot 3 Rich Slag Rich Slag 75%

Usage[edit]

Induction Smelter has no known uses in crafting.

Note[edit]

  1. Machine Frame (Basic) Machine Frame (Basic) can be substituted with the following items: Machine Frame (Hardened) Machine Frame (Hardened), Machine Frame (Reinforced) Machine Frame (Reinforced), Machine Frame (Resonant) Machine Frame (Resonant). to craft higher tier Induction Smelter.
  2. It is recommended to use a Pulverizer fed with Cobblestone to provided a constant supply of Sand to the Induction Smelter (Gravel must be sent off separately).
