The Chute (formerly the Hopper before 1.5, changed due to Hoppers being added in vanilla Minecraft) is a Block from the BuildCraft 3 Mod. It has a 4-slot inventory and can be connected to blocks with inventories (Electric Furnace, Stirling Engine, etc.) effectively increasing their internal storage capacity. However, it can only point downwards, whereas vanilla Hoppers can point to the sides as well.
Whenever possible, items from the Chute will drain into the inventory of the block below. This acts just like pipes with regards to the slots the items are being put in. The Chute transfers items much faster than a Hopper, but is not able to pull items floating in the world into it. They must be placed in the inventory either manually or via a Transport Pipe (or any other type of compatible Pipe or Tube). Should one have the desire to be able to throw items in, the Chute should be connected to an Obsidian Transport Pipe or a vanilla Hopper. The Chute does not output into pipes without using a powered Wooden Pipe.
Note that it is possible to put Chute on top of each other; they will drain into the next one without any problems.
