Champion Eldritch Guardian is a boss mob added by the Thaumcraft 4 mod.It can only spawn in Boss Room in Eldritch Dimension. Despite having large collision box of 4x2x2, this mob is only 3 blocks high and 1x1 block horisontally. This mob is a Champion by default and will have 1 random champion effect as well as the ability to charge the blocks it steps on. The charge dissapears after some time, but while it is still on the block, the lightning particles will show on it and any mob touching this block except the boss itself will have Weakness II debuff applied for 5 seconds.

Fighting the Boss

Frenzy Stage

The boss has a hidden parameter called Frenzy. The Frenzy meter is 150 - the damage dealt to the boss's Runic Shield. When Frenzy meter is activated, this phraze will appear in chat: BOSSNAME is enraged by your powerful blows. Also a special fighting stage will start, duing which the boss will teleport home to the place it has first spawned, become invincible and will charge all the blocks in the range of 23 blocks from the block the boss is standing on. When all the blocks are charged, the Frenzy meter will drop by 150 and the boss will become vulnerable again. The Frenzy stage will appear at least once during each fight, but it can appear unlimited amount of times depending on the weapon used.

Tactics

The biggest problem of fighting this boss is its Runic Shield which is very difficult to breach and which rapidly recharges overtime. So, the weapon with the highest base damage should be used to negate the recharging of the shield. The boss also charges the blocks which inflict Weakness, so the best option is to fight with Potion of Strength. The boss regens 1 HP per second and also 2 Runic Shield, so the player should deal at least 6 damage to negate its regen, and 12+ damage to kill the boss in several minutes and not in an hour.

The boss can also shoot projectiles similar to the ones Eldritch Guardian shoots, but dealing more damage. So, to negate knockback from them, use Speed boost effect or Thaumostatic Stabilizer to completely remove knockback. Attacking the boss with ranged weapons is not recommended because of the draw time during which the boss will regenerate its shield.

The boss will attack any entity it sees except Eldritch Guardians, so the player can use Iron Golems for assist in battle.

As the boss teleports at least once, using Bear Trap will have decent effect. The boss can also shoot the player from a distance, even if it is completely immobilized.

Trivia and Lore

The boss has a name which is randomly chosen from the following list each time it spawns:

  • Aphoom-Zhah
  • Basatan
  • Chaugnar Faugn
  • Mnomquah
  • Nyogtha
  • Oorn
  • Shaikorth
  • Rhan-Tegoth
  • Rhogog
  • Shudde M'ell
  • Vulthoom
  • Yag-Kosha
  • Yibb-Tstll
  • Zathog
  • Zushakon

There is a spawn egg for this boss, which is called Spawn %s the %s. First %s will be changed by a random name from the list above and the second %s will be changed by the name of the champion ability randomly chosen from the ability list. So, for example, the final name can be Yag-Kosha the Mighty.

The fact that this mob has a name, shows that Eldritch Guardians are not simple mobs, but intelligent creatures, probably from another dimension, but their lore is unknown. Probably, they are the spirits of the ancient Thaumaturges, or the Thaumaturges themselves. And, as there is no other mob to suit, they should probably be the Eldritch ones the dimension is named after. The other name of the dimension is Outer Lands, so this should be a part of something bigger not included in the mod (yet, hopefully).
