Just Enough Items (JEI for short) is a mod that gives you the recipes for all vanilla and modded items. It is the successor of the discontinued Not Enough Items mod and contains many of the original features. Its main purpose is to look up item recipes for the Crafting Table, Furnace and many modded machines.
Basic Controls[edit]
When hovering with the mouse over an item in any inventory, one can press the "R" key, to get a list of all recipes on how to craft that specific item. Pressing "U" will show a list with all recipes where the item is used in. The recipes are ordered in multiple tabs for each different machine, that can be switched like the tabs in the vanilla creative inventory.
Each recipe has a [+]-button next to it. When accessing the recipe screen from a machine that can produce the recipe, one can click this button to place the required items directly into the input slots of the machine, making crafting a lot faster. This requires that the items are in the players inventory. Some mods allow the items be pulled from a container additional to the player's inventory, for example the Crafting Terminal from Applied Energistics 2.
Searching[edit]
When opening the inventory, JEI shows a list of all items from all currently installed mods to the right. These can be searched through with the search bar at the bottom right. The same controls as described above can be used to obtain crafting information of all of these items.
Multiple search options are available:
- When entering a word, all items with this name will be shown.
- When beginning a word with an
@
-symbol, all items from the mod with this name will be shown. - When beginning a word with a
$
-symbol, all items from the ore dictionary with this name will be shown. - When beginning a word with a
-
-symbol, all items with this name will be hidden and everything else will be shown. - When beginning a word with a
%
-symbol, all items inside this creative inventory tab with this name will be shown. - When beginning a word with a
#
-symbol, all items with this tooltip will be shown.
All search options can be combined. For example:
-
@applied storage
will show all items from Applied Energistics 2 that contain the word "storage", namely the storage components. However the Storage Crate will not be shown, because it is from the BetterStorage mod (if these two mods are installed). -
crafting -table
will show all items that contain the word "crafting" but will hide all results that contain the word "table". The 1k Crafting Storage will therefore be shown. However, the Crafting Table will not be shown, although it contains the word "crafting", but it also contains "table" which is hidden.
Cheating[edit]
The cheat mode can be toggled on or off by Ctrl-clicking on the wrench at the bottom right. When cheat mode is enabled, the item list shown when opening the player's inventory can be used for cheating. The player can then click on an item to retrieve an entire stack of the item or right-click on an item to retrieve only a single item. Items dragged from the inventory into the item list will get deleted.
Note that enabling cheat mode requires OP privileges and may be disabled on servers.
