Advanced Item Collector is an upgraded version of the Item Collector added by the Random Things mod which acts as a ranged hopper. To use, Shift-right click to place it on any block with an inventory. By default the Advanced Item Collector will teleport any items dropped within a two block radius of its block (5x5x5 area) and place them into the storage block its base is touching. If not attached to a valid inventory, it will not pick anything up. The range of the collector can be adjusted by right-clicking it. The radius does not include the block where the collector is. If set to the minimum (0x0x0), it will only pick up items that land in the collector's block. If set to the max (10x10x10), the collector will pick items from a 21-block-wide (the item collector being the origin point) cube in the cardinal directions. Each radius can be adjusted individually. The item collector will work even if there are solid blocks in its way, such as through floors and ceilings. It can be configured to only pick up certain items or to ignore specific items with an Item Filter, and does not require any power.

Farming[edit]

This version of the item collector is excellent for creating a mob farm. For maximum benefits and range put the collector two blocks below your farm and in the center. It should be on top of a storage chest with automatic item extraction piping to a separate, more easily accessed chest or storage system*. If it were on a grid, the origin would be the collector at (0,0,-2). From there, build your walls in a cube over the item collector, the two-block space being for the chest and the collector on top or on the side. For maximum effect, build your mob farm from the origin point, 11 blocks in every directions and then build the walls on top of the eleventh block. To make sure you counted right, Stand over the collector and then count ten blocks in each cardinal direction, not counting the one you started on. The 11th block should be the wall. Now add spikes and Mob fans or other means of annihilating monsters and reap the benefits.
