Hydrogen (Chem Lib)
Hydrogen is the most common element in the universe due to it being the simplest atom. Hydrogen consists of only 1 proton and 1 electron.
Hydrogen is commonly found inside stars and gas giants. (and water.)
Hydrogen has 3 named isotopes.
1: Hydrogen - This is the most common isotope of Hydrogen. 1 proton, 0 neutrons, 1 electron. 2: Deuterium - This isotope is the first isotope of Hydrogen to have a neutron. 1 proton, 1 neutron, 1 electron. 3: Tritium - This isotope is the second isotope of Hydrogen to have a neutron and the first to have more neutrons than protons and/or electrons, 1 proton, 2 neutrons, 1 electron.
Tritium an Deuterium is used as fuels for fusion reactors, because, when deuterium and tritium fuse, they create a helium nucleus, which has two protons and two neutrons. The reaction releases an energetic neutron which then can be used as an energy source.
